Plot: When the beautiful maiden Isabeau rejects the evil Bishop Imperious for the soldier Etienne, Imperious places a magic spell on the lovers: Isabeau is condemned forever to live as a hawk by day and as a woman by night, while Etienne is a man by day and a wolf at night. Even though the two are constant companions, they can catch only fleeting glimpses of each other's human forms at sunset and sunrise. When a petty thief befriends the unfortunate pair, he and a sympathetic priest devise a plan that will at last free Etienne and Isabeau from their curse.
